LaFlare Mail (Vol 1.1)
In the words of the esteemed street poets, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, "it's the first of the month!!" Welcome to the inaugural issue of our monthly newsletter, LaFlare Mail, and released on (you guessed it) the 1st day of each month. We'll be keeping you up-to-date on all things golf, passing along some fun ideas, and giving you some cubicle entertainment. So let’s get to it….
Introducing…
We’ve updated our website and added some new features to laflaregolf.com that we hope everyone will enjoy. Some are for your reading entertainment, some help you earn tour points. So make sure you check out the new features below.
Member Spotlight
There’s much more to read about our Member of the Month on the website, including what his fellow members have to say about him and what he listens to before an event. So make sure to check out the Member Spotlight each month and let us know who you think is deserving of being featured next month.
Laflare trivia
Worried about sliding down the leaderboard because family obligations prevent you from making an event? No worries! Each month, members will have the opportunity to earn tour points by playing LaFlare Trivia. Completing the quiz will earn you 1 point. Answering every question correctly will earn you 2 points. That’s 24 points (18 this year) up for grabs each season. All the answers can be found on the website, you just might have to do some clicking around.
Hear ye! Hear ye!
Drip Bayless here, and I get to talk about my favorite thing - kings! Normally I'm very critical of certain Kings, but today, I am feeling complimentary. Let's start dealing and see what's going on in the world of golf and LaFlare.
THE MOST IMPORTANT MARCH SPORTING EVENTS IN THE WORLD
We'll start first with everyone's favorite bracket-based March-time event. The event that’s been the hot topic at water coolers across the nation. We’re talking, of course, about the World Golf Championships - Dell Technologies Match Play.
Our first king is the newly crowned #1 in the World Golf Rankings, the fake UT's own Scottie Scheffler. Scottie capped off his third(!) win of 2022 by dispatching a gauntlet of 2021 champion Billy Horschel, Seamus Power, Dustin Johnson, and match play extraordinaire Kevin Kisner. Congrats to Scottie, who at 25 years young has what we hope is a long reign ahead.
Next, let's jump into more discussions of royalty. In everyone's second favorite bracket-based March Event, all we see is royal blue in the Final Four. You've got Kansas vs. Villanova and UNC vs. Duke. We'll see if Coach K leaves the sport as a King or a Joker.
There are also questions about whether anyone outside of Big 12 country cares about Kansas. But most importantly, will Jay Wright put the old three piece suit back on? No matter how it shakes out, a past King will rise back to their throne. Hey, it's not golf stuff, but that ball's got dimples on it too.
In the world of LaFlare, none other than Hayden Freels has been named the King of Rockwood! After a valiant fight on a windy Avalon battlefield with team scores separated by a measly 50-some-odd strokes (out of around 1,900 total), Hayden's army prevailed against Zack Taylor's. May Hayden be a kind and benevolent ruler. We will miss Zack as he was beheaded after the event - as is tradition. Long live the king!
A shift has happened at the top of the LaFlare Golf Leaderboard as a result of the past event. Moving into T-4 by compiling half of his 42 tour points by being on this month's victorious team and winning the Kobe is none other than Brad Thomas!
Next up, sharing 4th place with Brad is Hayd-- wait, that's not Hayden but none other than Clay Freels! Clay has embedded himself on tour and leapfrogged his own son by one point by placing in the top-20 individual scores.
In a tie for second are LaFlare stalwarts, Josh Gambrell and Reid Elwood. Let this go to show that no matter your golf skill level, anyone can climb to the top of the leaderboard, whether you're a Condor Cup individual winner or just Josh.
Finally, a new (temporary) king has risen to the top of the LaFlare Golf leaderboard, and that king is none other than Terry Jay. It's still very early, and with many Tour Points yet to be earned, it's anyone's guess who will be at the top come the end of the season.
Yo what up! It’s your boy Bilbo Swaggins here to provide you some entertainment, LaFlare style. We’ve got bloopers, we’ve got LaFlare news, we’ve even got words to live by. So why delay the fun? Let’s kick things off with this month’s blooper from none other than Brent Tittsworth.
Blooper of the month
A LaFlarian working on their game in the backyard with a net that’s clearly not meant for golf. Surely everything will work out, right?
Well, maybe not. Shoutout to member Brent Tittsworth for surviving this mishap, although it did require 5 stitches to stop the bleeding. The best part? This isn’t the first time he’s gotten injured practicing in the yard. Mama didn’t raise no quitter. Make sure you turn the sound on when watching to hear his instant reaction.
Chicks dig scars.
Pain is temporary.
Glory lasts forever.
Also, great facial hair.
Upcoming LaFlare Events
We’ve got great events coming up in both Knoxville and Chattanooga, so make sure to checkout the Events Page to register for those events.
Knoxville- Billy Brooks’ Tax Day Turnup @ Dead Horse Lake (4/16)
Chattanooga- The King’s Cup @ Nob North (5/7)
Words to live by
Last but not least, we will always send you off into the new month with some words to live by. Consider this the LaFlare version of Rev Run sitting in his bath tub drafting e-mails on his Blackberry in 2007 (Who’s house? Run’s house!).
So there you have it. Don’t be ordinary. Be extraordinary and play from the hazards. Have a great month LaFlarians!!
Yours Truly,
DRIP BAYLESS & BILBO SWAGGINS
